Fresh Brands: Le Slip Francais

Every great outfit has to have a good foundation…  so before you get dressed; it’s fundamental to have the proper underwear.  For me, when selecting a pair of briefs, it comes down to fit and fabric and any other details are just an added bonus.  I was thrilled when I found out that Le Slip Français opened up a shop at PMQ in Hong Kong.

Le Slip Français is a French brand, created by Guillaume Gibault, which specializes in men’s underwear.  Fusing French manufacturing with a modern twist, each item is 100% made in France… including the fabrics, packaging and construction!  If you think that’s impressive, wait till you try on one of their underwear.

The low-rise fitted briefs are perfect for wearing skinny jeans and sit nicely on the hips.  I’m more of a classic fit myself, but their low-rise boxer briefs are very comfortable, giving a bit more coverage without the thighs riding up.  They also offer a classic boxer short, ideal for lounging around at home.  Besides making nice underwear, Le Slip Français knows how to have a little fun with practicality; like their “Scented Briefs”, a technological underwear with microcapsules of fragrance integrated within the fabric that keeps you smelling fresh as you wear them.

Make sure to check out their shop at PMQ or visit Kapok’s Sun Street store for a limited edition capsule collection only available at Kapok.

Just ‘cause you’re no longer a high schooler doesn’t mean you can’t get into the back to school spirit and update your backpack for the Fall season.  Backpacks are super convenient for the man about town, leaving both hands free to multitask on your morning commute, perfect for carrying your gym gear and may come in handy as an overnight bag.

This season it seems like every major fashion brand has their must-have backpack… these are my favorites!

Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Eau Fraiche

SPICE-POST Spicebomb-Eau-Fraiche

When you live in a city where the average humidity is over 80%, wearing a strong fragrance can be slightly overwhelming.  That’s why I prefer to wear “summer fragrances” or lighter colognes all year round, especially during the day.

Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Eau Fraîche is a lighter new version of the original Spricebomb scent.  It has the same intense smell of grapefruit, pepper and tobacco, but it is lighter and more refreshing with a nice touch of lavender.  It leaves a clean impression, perfect for the muggy heat.

Harrison Wong

H-WONG-TITLE HW-1 HW-1a HW-2a HW-2b HW-3It’s great to see non-profit social enterprises work to promote and showcase Hong Kong’s local creative talents.  The Former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters is now the home to PMQ, Hong Kong’s new design hub that’s conveniently located on Aberdeen Street.

On my last trip to PMQ, I checked out Harrison Wong’s first menswear retail shop on the second floor at the Staunton Building.  Before launching his own fashion brand, Wong had won the Hong Kong Young Designers Contest in 1996 and received a Fashion Masters Degree from London’s College of Fashion.

Harrison Wong offers contemporary apparel and accessories for the urban male.  He makes everyday styles with an edge, but keeps it nice and clean.  Here are a few pictures from his Spring 2014 look book.  Can’t wait to see his next collection!

Must-Haves: Eleven High-Tops

August 7th, 2014 | Posted by ML in Must Haves - (Comments Off)

HIGH-TOPSA few weeks ago I was thrilled to see the Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” at the Al Hirschfeld Theater in New York City.  I can totally relate to the story, especially for the love of shoes!  Although I most likely can rock a pair of 6 inch stilettos, I’m more obsessed with this seasons high-tops.  Here are my eleven must-haves sneakers… which one’s your favorite?

Fall / Winter 2014 Campaign: Neil Barrett

August 4th, 2014 | Posted by ML in Fashion Campaigns - (Comments Off)

I’m a fan of Neil Barrett’s collections.  His street inspired looks are easy to wear and his bold graphic approach makes each style stand out.  So it’s not a surprise that I love his Fall/Winter 2014 campaign.

The very young looking campaign features male models Park Hyeong Seop and Callum Rockall along with the Dominican 18 year old beauty Ysaunny Brito (another amazing Latina to keep an eye out for).  The minimalistic yet sporty shoot was photographed by Matthew Stone and styled by Robbie Spencer.

Less Is (in this case) More

Mario Testino’s latest collaboration for V Magazine’s 90th issue is jam-packed with supermodels baring tone bodies and, umm… not much more!  The “Less Is (in this case) More” editorial was styled by Sarajane Hoare and features the gorgeous Latina model Joan Smalls with clean shaven Aurélien Muller in some of Fall 2014 statement pieces.

I’m absolutely in love with Joan Smalls (who comes from my home country of Puerto Rico!) and I can barely recognize Aurélien Muller without his scruffy beard…  What a good looking duo.

Burroughs Beard Oil

July 23rd, 2014 | Posted by ML in Grooming - (Comments Off)

I recently had to change my skincare regimen since I’ve decided not to shave my beard. Most cleansers would dry the skin beneath my beard and moisturizers are to thick to pass my thick scuff, leaving a chalk like residue… not cool!

So I did some research and came across Burroughs Beard Oil by Prospector Co.  This fast drying, quick absorbing oil blends argan oil – which has been used to improve the skin of Berber people for hundreds of years- with grapseed oil, a natural astringent.  The oils help moisturize surface skin and condition follicles while other ingredients like Cedarwood and Sandlewood make it smell amazing.  Best of all it can be used on your whole face.  Cheers to a shaveless summer!
